Which editions for Bach/Rachmaninov/Prokofiev?
on: April 23, 2007, 08:20:52 PM
I am planning on purchasing the following

Bach - seven Toccatas

Rachmaninov - complete Preludes

Prokofiev - Concerto no. 3

Which editions do you all recommend? I was thinking Peters for Bach, Boosey&Hawkes for Rachmaninov, and for Prokofiev I have no idea. Please contribute.

Thanks

I think B&H would probably be the only publisher for the Prokofiev anyway unless Kalmus has one out.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

The Henle edition for Bach's Toccatas is worth considering.

I'm curious as to what everyone thinks is the best edition for Prokofiev. I keep hearing that Boosey & Hawkes' Prokofiev editions are actually BAD.

Boosey&Hawkes edition of Prokofiev Visions Fugitives is excellent. I have no idea about the concerti though.

Kalmus and International are supposedly good editions for Prokofiev Sonatas, along with the out-of-print Dover volume 2. I've also heard that Sandor's edition is excellent.
