I bet Nicholas Cage would be better able to write a serious piece of music.

This music is apparently deemed serious enough such that the library of the University of New South Wales has, um, 3 copies of this magnificent work (i.e. more than pretty much anything else on shelf available for loan)

Pretty much.

Assuming that your tempo is anywhere near Cage's... if your considerably off, I could make the argument that you were not plagarising his work, but simply preforming a parody of it.  ;D

I think this is a serious ( ;D) debate - That movie composer did get sued by the Cage co. for including 55 secs of silence on his album.

There was a similar lawsuit (which Cage co. won, I think) against a rock band that included a silent track (called "A One-Minute Silence") on one of their albums.

Sure enough... here's a link to the CNN article about this:

https://archives.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/23/uk.silence/

The guy that was sued had this to say about the suit:

“Mine is a much better silent piece. I have been able to say in one minute what Cage could only say in four minutes and 33 seconds.”

Nothing to celebrate really. Easiest music to memorize and clearly this is not music of genius. Not even CLOSE to remotely close to mediocre music.  ;D I'd rather listen to atonal music than that crap.
