The teachers' forum
on: May 01, 2007, 06:19:57 PM
I don't fit into the "professional pianists and piano teachers as well as piano students and amateures at an advanced level." category I'm afraid to say- but why should I not have any input in the discussions on that board? Surely the piano teachers could learn more about the effectiveness of their techniques if they can ask the students directly what it is they do and don't respond to?

I agree that the piano teachers should have discussions with each other, but I think by excluding the students from those discussions you're losing out on a valuble viewpoint :)

If you feel you have something valuable to say, then I think you should by all means say it.  :)

Hi Pip , I'm glad you joined in spite of your furious hatred of forums :P

Don't feel intimidated by people on here, and ignore the divisions between amateur/profession/teacher, you can post wherever you think is best.

m1469 is right. In general, within actual forum rules, people must be free to post anywhere they feel they can make a contribution. In that sense, I have always taken the heading "Teachers' Forum" loosely and more in the sense of "Teaching Forum", that is to say a forum about teaching rather than an exclusive rule about who may post there. I suppose I am incorrect according to the letter, but I tend to think it doesn't matter a great deal here. On the other hand if a poster stated he or she wished to have replies from teachers only, or indeed, from some other group of people which excluded me, then I would stay out of it. I think we should all just use common sense and give and take.

Ok thanks guys- but if that's the case, when you 'preview' your comment, shouldn't the warning be removed? It seems to be that it's actively discouraging students to post there.

I think the only reason that warning was put there was because beginner students were posting many threads in those boards that were better suited to the Student's Corner. Don't be intimidated by it.  :)

Read nils's own explanation for this.

As long as you want to post in those boards, go ahead. Nothing is stopping you. :)
