I think that it is safe to assume most pianists are gay. I am shocked when a pianist says he is straight, and people always give me a strange look when I say I am straight. It really is a true statement to say that most are gay. I don't think this is an offence at all, a lot of my good friends are gay (pianists) and they laugh about the gayness of most pianists. It is a mystery that always crops up in discussion. Enough evidence lies in looking at any musical institution and seeing what professors are gay. It's very suprising at how many are gay.

I am not homophobic in anyway!!!!! Just had to add that so people don't start calling me homophobic. I am simply stating my experience on the subject of gay pianists.

I've never  thought about it that way, but am straight. i,ve no fear of gay people ,though i do fear transexuals, the ones that have a full sex change, they confuse me.(male to female)

I'ts not safe to assume that most pianist are gay.

The list of al the (known) pianists that are gay is perhaps large.

What is much larger (I think) is the list of (known) pianist that are not gay.

However, that is an assumption. And until someone does a large indepth research on this subject, it's just speculation.

And you can't assume most pianists are gay just because most pianists you know are gay. But that's quite logical isn't it.

Most male pianists I know are gay (and so am I), but the question is: does anyone really care? What difference does it make to our art what we do with whom behind closed door?

Good point.  It makes no difference -- unless you want to tour Vietnam.  ::)

I know more straight pianists than gay pianists.  I'm straight, but have nothing against those whose lifestyles differ from my own.

Do a study on gender and you will find that there are many genders, so having a discussion about "gay pianists" is a very narrowsighted view of reality.

I remember reading some research a few years back that said that people with exceptionally long fourth fingers (i.e. the ring finger) were likely to be homosexual.   :o

So I guess guys with longer fingers would be better pianists, so that would be why so many are gay  8)

Just look at the cast of Chopin's hands - and he used to hang out with a bloke called George...so that proves it  ;)

why piano playing is considered  feminin?

to me it's a very masculin, imagin a women playing scriabin etude in d# minor or liszt mazzepa!!! that's very masculin and rough even for men.

after one of my recitals at college my sister told me that some guys were saying who would think that this guy plays the piano, i'm muscled and tall by the way :D, he doesn't look gay.

intrestingly i used to know 2 guys that played the piano, one gay and one is bi.

i didn't say it doesn't suit a women i'm just saying that playing the piano is not as feminin as many think it is.
