Ignaz Brull
on: May 08, 2007, 01:32:16 PM
Well i have taken a serious liking to Volume 20 of Hyperion's romantic piano concerto series, especiall the Ignaz Brull concerto no. 1.  I have the score for this in PDF, but the quality is horrendous.  I'd be very interested in purchasing the score if it's available, but I tend to think it's out of print.  Does anyone have an original printing of this?  Or could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
Justin

You would do well to find an original of this.

i assume the one you have is the same as mine, so you will see that it was originally published by Bote & Bock who have merged with Boosey & Hawkes, so you could try them. In my experience, pulishers are totally unhelpful when dealing with out of print music.

Therefore, you would probably be best to order a copy from a Library that has it. The chances are that it will not be a vast improvement though. The University libraries of Michigan and Cincinatti have a copy.

Brull does seem to have his own little site where you can buy his scores, so that is another alternative.

That's exactly right.  I sent an email to boosy and hawkes, but unfortunately they weren't aware of it.  I did notice the full orchestral score to rent from them.  Doesn't help me though.  I will check out that other link you sent me.

I wonder who originally created this pdf scan.  Someone in the music community must have the original.

Perhaps, the scan was made from a copy supplied by a library.

Its not too bad. Better than some of the rubbish i churn out.

Well, www.ignazbrull.com has been very helpful.  While they do have a brand new typeset score of the 1st piano concerto, it's very very expensive to purchase.  However, they were able to direct me to to much nicer scan of the public domain score.
