music schools
on: May 19, 2007, 10:31:59 PM
Hi all,

Just looking for some advice on music schools, I have been looking at one in blackburn lancashire (england) and wondering whether to go along.

I have been playing piano since last october...well i had a keyboard and decided to buy a digital piano which i have been using since then. In this time I have managed to learn the beethoven mvt 1 of moonlight sonata which i can play all the way through but needs work to sound a lot better, also i have been learning chopin op9 no1 which is quite a challenge for me (i guess thats why i like it), but that is coming along ok.

I just think i might benefit from havin some proper tuition as i have never had a lesson before i just taught myself, also the fact that i may have to play in front of people who appreciate the music will build my confidence up.

I don't have a clue about the pricing lol but im guessing it wont be cheap,  Im also considering lessons either in my home or a piano tutors.

Id appreciate any comments as to which route I shoud take..I guess it comes down to personal preference/circumstances...but what do I know lol.

Much appreciated all who reply.

It certainly won't be cheap, but I'm sure we would all encourage you to invest in something you love.  I know people who will pay through the nose to have their bathrooms cleaned, and yet can't cough up $10 for a concert of seventy minutes of Schubert Lieder with a terrific singer and pianist.  $10 for seventy minutes of beautiful music played well is frankly a steal, and one should be ashamed not to pay it.

I mean people blow their money on the most useless garbage.  Not to say I don't appreciate a paid service to clean the bathroom, only to say that your earnings have to go where your values are, and you might miss out on spending it in other, more popular ways, you may have to forego material pleasures that a lot of other people have, but you will be much better off personally.

Thanks Walter,

I think the best option for me at the moment is to get a teacher...even if for just once a fortnight.
