Gardener's question time
on: June 10, 2007, 01:59:31 PM
Any gardeners out there... help!

My poor little fushia plant is having greenfly problems, how do I get rid of them? The flies that is, not the fushia. Preferably with as few chemicals as possible...

Of course in an ideal world it'd be ladybirds (or is that for aphids?) but I don't seem to have any so that's scuppered...
Go you big red fire engine!

you can also 'order' ladybugs.  my mom ordered a box - and some were still alive.  (laugh if you must).  she put them out - and defeated the bug problem.

Funny that people want to "get rid" of insects (by which of course we mean kill) but don't want to use chemicals to do it  ;D

Anyway, the vinegar spray should work, as will a but of washing up liquid watered down and sprayed on.  I seem to remember the theory is that they can't breath and so suffocate, rather than it being the spray itself that does 'em in (if that makes any sense). :)
