Suggest a Moooovie for me
on: June 15, 2007, 12:56:53 AM
I'm in the mood for something along the lines of Get Shorty and the The Big Lebowski - sort of smart arse wise cracking comedies.

The Princess Bride.

Prepare to die.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

...Something by Kevin Smith maybe?

Doesn't really fit your description, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was damn good.

Something else that doesn't fit your guideline is Pans Labyrinth.  You might not want to look at a bottle of wine for a while, but a very well done show!

Raising Arizona was done by the same writer/director team who made The Big Lebowski.  Very twisted humor.
The artist does nothing that others deem beautiful, but rather only what to him is a necessity.  Arnold Schoenberg, Theory of Harmony

Let's see...Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" is based on an Elmore Leonard novel. (Forget which one.) Also "Out of Sight" with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, a terrific movie, also a Leonard novel.

I liked hearing the directors comments on this one.  He put a lot of thought into the movie, making it a unified whole, color themes, how the two worlds interact with each other...  Every little detail had a purpose and reason.  It was pretty cool.

In contrast my brother was telling me when he listened to the comments for 'Dodgeball', that they basically winged it, it didn't really matter much how things went.  A throwaway underdog storyline with gags.

Not that I don't enjoy cheap laughs!
