I agree. There are like a million threads like this in the polls section and we don't need another one.

I don't hate any of their works.  I like some of them more than others.

I'm very much with you about the Octet, but you surely don't "hate" the F minor Quartet, Op. 80, do you?...

What is your favourite piece by Clara Schumann?

I wouldn't say that I hate them, but I strongly dislike Clara Schumann and Rachmaninoff.
Clara's music sounds too Biedermeier to me. Rachmaninoff has always some good parts, but then there are so many wrong notes, which spoil the overall impression.
If it doesn't work - try something different!

There's a good chance I haven't heard it, as I haven't really taken the time to listen to some of the less common-rep Mendelssohn pieces.  I will listen tonight.

OHHHHH counterpoint, now you seriously disappoint me :'(. Rach is my favorite composer and the "wrong notes" are wonderful, painful or lightful colours in a world of depth and transcendence.

That's regrettable - that you are disappointed from me - but everyone has his personal preferences. Rachmaninoff does not belong to mine  :-[

Yes of course. But perhaps you will give him another chance one day? I was not so much into Rach either when I was young. :)

How can one possibly "hate" or "dislike" brahms...... Come to think of it, how can someone who likes classical music or has any respect or understanding of the genre "hate" ANY of those composers??? I'm not saying you gotta like everything, but those are some big names up there, and all contributed a lot to the music that came either after, and all have some real gems. This is so black and white. It's so completely useless to have this kind of thread...

I adore Rachmaninoff. I hate nobody, but most of the time I find Schubert annoying.
Currently learing:
- Chopin: Ballade No.3
- Scriabin: Etude Op. 8 No. 2
- Rachmaninoff: Etude Op. 33 No. 6
- Bach: P&F No 21 WTC I

Yes. I just was talking about myself. When I was 20 I found Rach overloaded, kitschy, too sweet, too many notes etc. etc. The love came later. Life is the composer, after all, maybe...to me not ONLY maybe.....

I can honestly say that I love all of them. Each of them for exactly what he/she is or has been. Each of them because they poured their whole life and heart into their music. They have given all they had. Their whole life. Their whole feelings. Their whole effort. They are heroes to me. All of them.
