Anyone who can recommend a classical piece?
on: June 24, 2007, 01:55:13 PM
I heard a very brilliant piece once. Sadly I can't remember the name of the composer or the piece. It was really explosive, and different from all the sad, minorpieces
All the notes took me by surprise! It wasn't predictable, as other pieces are. It's not beautiful, it's... special. (Kind of like Poetic Tone Pictures)

Can anyone recommend pieces of this type?

Classical? Try some Beethoven Sonatas  :P Maybe you heard the Hammerklavier. Really, the only "explosive" "classical" composer is Beethoven, and his explosive sonatas are somewhat Romantic.

Beethoven? It's exactly the opposite of what I'm looking for.
I don't know my grade, but I have played alot of difficult pieces. If not, I'd like a challenge :)

Schumann Soaring or Whims are both explosive *kind of. Check them out.. In German editions they are called Aufschwung and Grillen

Ravel Sonatine or Chopin Scherzo
If it doesn't work - try something different!

explosive...classical...minor, but not really "Emo" like most....

I'm stumped.

Another clue, perhaps?

(at the moment, I'm thinking of Scherzo 2 by Chopin or Les Adieux [whtevr] by beethoven, which is pretty cool, for classical...)

How about Golliwog's Cakewalk?  Or is that not classical afterall? By Debussy - but I get the eras mixed up!
I'm just thinking of something that sounds happier....
That's the impression I get you're looking for.

I know the exact piece you're talking about.  Scriabin Prelude Opus 11 No. 7.  Fits your description exactly--explosive, different from all other pieces, and all the notes will take you by surprise.  All of them, baby! It's unpredictable, and special.....kind of like.....oh I don't know, like a poetic tone picture.   That's your piece.  Problem solved.
