How to break habits!
on: June 25, 2007, 12:54:24 AM
I have this stupid habit - every night, i go around and check every window and door, make sure they're shut, the computer, TV and Amp is turned off - anywho, thing is it takes me about 10 minutes to actually go to bed.  I just stand there and stare at the locks making sure they are shut.  It's starting to piss me off.

hahaha, you're LOSING IT!!!

As a kid I remember my Dad would go around shutting off the lights, then flickering them a dozen or so times.

An idea:  think of how the sequence begins, notice the next time it happens... and go right to bed!

i think it's a good idea.  especially if you live in california.  we used to have wierd noises and things happen at 1-2 am - and i felt good knowing that i had done my part to at least lock up the house.  and, if you get more expensive stuff later - get those motion sensitive lights.  several times they really kept some would-be thieves off the doorstep.  especially if the light is aimed at face height.  we also used to block the sliding doors with plank of wood.  nobody would get into the house unless they broke glass.  i suppose that the next item for you would be an alarm system or viscious dog.

Sounds like a safe routine.

If it's so mindless though that you have to double check, just really, really focus on it once so you're mind knows the door is locked.

But don't step on any cracks while you do that routine.  Not even one.

I highly recommend growing a moustache.  The discipline required will help you to shed those old habits along with having a positive impact on your piano playing.
I highly recommend that everyone at least tries growing a moustache.  It will do wonders for your piano playing.

It's safe alright but it annoys the hell out of me.  It's standing and staring for 10 minutes when I know it's shut trying to convince myself that it is that annoys me.

It's actually training-wheels for people who can't make the 'westside' hand symbol.

Did you know that Steven Spielberg also asked me to model for that particular Burger King outfit?  Unfortunately, I was doing Magnum at the time so it didn't work out.  It's tough to look back and think what might have been though.
