Summer Piece
on: June 27, 2007, 03:07:03 AM
Alright, this year I've been working on some random repertoire, mostly from the same composers  8) , but w/e... I want 2-3 pieces to work on in the summer which are around this, I don't feel like looking through piano.ru/sheetmusicarchive for like 30 hours looking for a piece, just suggest some that are around the difficulty on the stuff that I've recently finished :

Rach Etudes D minor (op 33 and 39)
Chopin Ballade in G minor
Chopin etude op 25 #12
Rach Preludes op 23 #1, op 32 #3, op 32 #12
Debussy Feux D'artifice
Bach Prelude/Fugue G# minor bk 2

... I'm really looking for something in the romantic area, I've been doing a lot of Ravel/Rachmaninoff/Debussy, I want to take a break from 20th century.  I do not want to work on a sonata, I just want some 'flashy', fun Romantic Pieces... I have like 2 months (working PART time, haha very few hours, got lotsa time to myself this summer :D), some decent sized pieces like the ballade would be what I'm looking for :D... Anyways thanks in advance, I'd never finish searching for a piece with all the stuff in the public domain... I'm sure something someone suggests will catch my attention!
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Liszt - any of the Hungarian Rhapsodies
Schumann - Symphonische Etudes
Chopin - Andante Spianato and Grande polonaise Brillante
Mendelssohn - Sonata in G minor

and many others... this is all what i can think of now. There is nothing more than flashy, fun pieces from the romantic age.

Chopin's Polonaise-Fantasie op. 61.  Underplayed, late Chopin with beautiful themes and an explosive ending, and if you enjoyed the Ballade you'll probably like this too (similar technical difficulty but more interpretive challenges, I'm guessing).  Also consider Schumann's Faschingsschwanck aus Wien or a Novellette (21/8 is very nice).  The Symphonic Etudes are also well worth the effort but would probably take longer than a summer to really get down.  Same with Kreisleriana.
