Who's left running Poland?
on: June 27, 2007, 11:27:18 AM
Well, are there any Poles left in Poland?

Not that I have anything against The Polish.

But they do all seem to have moved to England.

I guess "Poland" is the land of the Poles, no?

There's a couple of freaky twins running Poland I think.  Their particular brand of diplomacy won hearts and minds last week when they reckoned they should get a higher share of votes in EU matters, because if Germany hadn't started WWII then they would have a much higher population.   ::)

In Romania, Czechia etc, they are now hiring people from Asia to do manual labour. Places like Nepal and Bangladesh. Indians are gone already. They are building Dubai, which has 2 times as many males as females currently living there. Half of the males are construction workers.

In Poland the salary is currently booming. It won't take long before Polish people no longer  have any special reason to go to western Europe.

Um, prometheus, you might be a little wrong here. There is very little influx of Bangladesh or Nepali workers coming to the Czech Republic (which means -here-). One strong Asian community is here, though, and is here for quite a long time - the Vietnamese. The roots of the community reach towards the time of the bloody stupid communist rule: Vietnam was in the Soviet sphere, too, so, to encourage "brotherhood", the Vietnamese were encouraged to move over. A few of them did. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, more started coming, because they could see an opportunity here, and there - indeed - was one. They basically run the building-free markets. They do manual labor - not hired, though, but self-employed, and whatever they make they also sell in these markets and stalls. It's cheap stuff all right, but sometimes, you get things which don't disintegrate one day after warranty expires, and these are pretty good value. However, the Vietnamese community is not getting any stronger number-wise, what they are doing is that some earn enough money to run pretty good businesses, so they are starting to find their niche in the middle classes.

There is also an influx of Asian - most notably, Korean - companies. Two large car factories have been erected within the last few years, and another one is due. But neither the Vietnamese, nor the Koreans are hired manual labor people. These would be the Ukrainians, and their invasion has also ceased considerably during the last, uh, three years.

As far as our northern neighbors are concerned... the well-known abbreviation comes to mind: what? ::) The Kaczynsky twin potatoes are not the worst (which does say something...), though, the worst one out there is the League of Catholic Families (NOTE: do not confuse with anything remotely connected to a viable religion) party and the education minister that comes from this party. That man is insane very much in the way that has been suggested already:

Their particular brand of diplomacy won hearts and minds last week when they reckoned they should get a higher share of votes in EU matters, because if Germany hadn't started WWII then they would have a much higher population. ::)

Well, i think a lot are in England and i say that is to our benefit.

The ones i have encountered are excellent hard workers, that do the jobs that the English don't want to and probably better even if they did want to.

I now have Polish neighbours and they are lovely people.

I would welcome more Poles to England and chuck out some of the crap that we have let in that are of no value.

Well, I heard that Poland had a shortage of construction workers. And they got new ones from other east-European countries. And then got them, or would get them in the future, from Asian countries. Now maybe I confused the Czech Republic with Bulgaria or Ukraine or maybe these are future events rather than present day ones.

Chicago is full of Poles.  I've come to hate most that I meet and I'm sure a good 85-90% of them are total shitbags.

This place was nicer and better overall when I first joined.

Wow, do you think you might be contributing to the decline with comments like the above.

If East European workers are coming to the west to work, and Asian workers are going to Eastern Europe to work, where will Asia get all it's workers from?

Will they entice all the out of work people in the West to their work?

Full Circle.

I would say at the very least that "pies" is contributing to the art of gross inconsistency, but then perhaps I'm being too nice here...

Back to the topic at hand.....

We read in the paper today that the Bank of England is concerned about the number of £50 notes dropping out of circulation.  Apparently its due to east Europeans (mainly Poles) sending them back to their homelands.

Note sure that's the positive benefit of immigration that we are always told about.

When i worked at the Co-operative Bank in Glasgow, about 3 or 4 of Celtic FC players used to come in on a weekly basis to withdraw £20,000 - £50,000 in £50 pound notes.

That would be sent back to their homeland.

I am surprised there are any left at all.

It certainly is.

I remeber Larson coming into the Bank wanting to draw money out to buy a 911 Porsche.

Barely cost him a weeks wages.

Amazing what people are paid to kick balls around.

Couldn't you have left it before that occurred? - or didn't you notice the effect until it was too late?...
