I just bought a Keyboard
on: March 20, 2004, 11:12:35 PM
Hello, I just bought myself a keyboard, and I have never played the piano before.
I am 12 years old, I have played the violin before, but I lost the skill from the lack of practice, I also played the recorder, trumpet, and piccolo, but I also lost the ability to play them.
I spent all last night learning how play Fur Elise. Please constructiveley criticize. Keep in mind this is my first song ever on the piano. =)

Also, please right click and savetarget as, I am curently using free hosting, so please share the bandwith with everyone so everyone may have a chance to listen
I know the sound quality of a keyboard isn't beautiful as the sounds of a real piano. I have a grand piano at my aunts house, which she has agreed to let me come over anytime to practice.

I hope you won't drop piano like some of your other instruments, because it does take a LOT of practice. But most of the time it's fun! And btw, are you reading music when you play Fur Elise? If you don't know how to read music already, you should really learn, I think it's one of the greatest skills you can have, to be totally independent, and not have to rely on anybody, and play music.

hi snowman!
Well i just have downloaded ur recording on the keyboard i think u've did a good job if it is your first piece ever on the piano!
And u 've learned it in just one night..my compliments.
Of course it can be a lot better with more practice i think u should pay more attention for the rythtm and the musical feeling. Just practice and i think u will play this piece nicely soon
Its too bad u don''t have a piano at home, but im happy for u that ur aunt let u practice on her grand! I wish i could play on a grand

Let me give your some advice.
I reccomend to stick with something. If you want to play music do that. If you want to paint stick with that. Whatever you pick as a hobby, don't give it up until you die. Young peoples interests seem to change every few weeks, I also used to have that when I was young.
Put music on no.1 and piano on no.2. It seems that you though "hey I want to play piano" and then you picked 'fur elise' as the piece to learn. This is an obvious choice but I think its music-philosophically wrong. Music is the goal and the instrument is the tool. So love music. Explore music no one else knows. I know you are only 12 but the earlier you realise this, the better.
Turn your brain into a musical nexus. You already played alot of instruments. Maybe you lost the skill to play those but its hard to lose the musicality in your brain if you listen and play(any instrument) everyday. I sometimes like to sing along with the music I like. Of course I can barely sing but I can actually reproduce al the notes of some very complex Charlie Parker solo's a voice in a Bach fuga or an indian singer singing music totally alien to most westerners. If you can't sing something you can never play it. Its the most direct connection between music and mind.
At the age of 12 you can go any way you want. I started with music when I was 17 and playing piano music on keyboards when I was 20.

Being able to sing will help you play, but you can still play if you can't sing.
