My Brilliant Brain
on: July 03, 2007, 09:31:44 AM
https://www.tvthrong.co.uk/coming-soon/coming-soon-on-five-my-brilliant-brain
The programme centres around Marc Yu, a seven-year-old concert pianist with a repertoire of some 40 classical pieces. At the age of two, Marc heard a rendition of ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ at a birthday party, pulled himself up to a piano and played it back flawlessly. A year later, he was playing Beethoven from memory.
etc.
Next monday on Five in teh UK.
I'll watch it, but can someone cap it too? Sounds very interesting.

Well, Steve, don't let it.
While I can't speak for this specific case, the impressive things about this kids are most impressive on paper.
He may play technically fluently, but that can come even for a late starter, he simply has a prodigous brain that allows for rapid memorisation of pieces.
All this tells us is the amount of music he can play, not how movingly he can play it.
It's still remarkable, obviously, but it will take more than a reputation based on these feats to convince me to purchase a recording/pay to see him live.

I've never really looked into it, but I've wondered... If I remember right, the human ear can hear tones around 20hz, and doesn't that mean 20 pulses per second? So if somebody were to play 20+ notes/second, would it sound like a low hum?
