What are the benefits of steam ?

One of the benefits I can think of is that there would just be more steam around.  :-

hmmm... I am not sure how that is a benefit, exactly.  But, I suppose if it is a way of coping with stress or something, it could be.  Whatever floats your boat, I guess  :).

Speaking of boats, they wouldn't be the same without steam.  Neither would engines in general, actually. 

I mean, the term "steam engine" wouldn't even exist   :o :'(
