Funny quote of speeding down the highway?
on: July 08, 2007, 12:12:38 PM
I remember hearing a story about a famous musician (don't know if he was a pianist, conductor, etc.) who was stopped by a cop, who said "Why were you speeding?"  He responded, "You would be speeding too if you were listening to ________!"

Who was it and what was the piece?  I think the dialogue went something like that...
"The artist will spend months on a Chopin valse.  The student feels injured if he cannot play it in a day." - Vladimir de Pachmann

It was a conductor, though i can't remember who.. the piece was the finale of Beethovens seventh.
Belles journées, souris du temps,
vous rongez peu à peu ma vie.
Dieu! Je vais avoir vingt-huit ans...
Et mal vécus, à mon envie.

There's a different story of a cop pulling over an excessive speeder and finding Glenn Gould at the wheel conducting Mahler's 5th Symphony.

Don't let anyone know where you tie your goat.

Yes and the story I heard was that he was conducting with both hands.

Arrau was once pulled over for doing 3mph on the freeway.

He told the cops he was practising the "Waldstein".

That's true, it's impossible to do the speed limit to Beethoven's 7th!

The difference is driving a minivan - I have no clue what it takes for a cop to pull over a minivan.

Arrau was once pulled over for doing 3mph on the freeway.

He told the cops he was practising the "Waldstein".
