Meat
on: July 09, 2007, 05:25:49 AM
Just randomly, my friend Bob just introduced me to his pet chickens.  He has named them Shake and Bake.  They stay within a foot of each other all the time.  He says they get distressed if they're ever alone.  They're pretty--some breed called Rhode Island Reds or something.  He keeps them in the back yard.

my cousins have 30 chickens in their yard with 2 ducks and 3 little skunks. I am not sure what they are planning on doing with the animals. They have the skunks because their dad shot the mother and they didn't realize there was baby skunks. So they are keeping them as pets. They're very tame and follow you everywhere. I picked chicken because i just like it better and is one of the healthier meats.

I like all of the above if they are cooked right -- fish is great, too, but that's not considered meat, right ?

I eat shake and bake or turkey everyday.  :o

There's a stall in the market near where I live that specialises in Greek food, and they sell goat. Haven't quite plucked up the nerve to try it yet, I have no idea how to cook it or what to serve with it!

Hurrah for proper local butchers though, I buy from them rather than supermarkets as often as possible. The meat is always so much better than the mass-produced nonsense, especially all the prepackaged produce.

I've never tried it myself - although the dairy produce of goats (milk, cheese, butter) I find utterly repellent.

Yes, indeed - when and where you can actually find one. I think that they ae on the increase again, now, though. In the meantime, some markets include butcheries and there's always mail order if the worst comes to the worst - there are quite a few companies that sell first class organic meat and poultry by this means and, whilst this doesn't give the customer the opportunity to see and buy, the produce is usually very reliable and of good to exceptional quality.

I voted for chicken because I eat it more than any of the others.  But really nothing beats a good ribeye or filet.

Beef is delicious!

One of the more unusual meats I've tried is alligator...  It was ok.  Somehow, it tastes exactly like I expected.  Somewhere between mammal and fish, and very angry.  Didn't justify the price.

If seafood was up there I'd have picked that.  Tried some steamed mussels a few weeks ago and that was great!

What? We can't tempt you with the delights of a goat's cheese and vegemite toastie?  8)

Mutton is amazing.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

That's absolutely right - and congratulations on having either done sufficient homework or remembered enough from past posts to enable you to include that second ingredient! Mind you, I do rather wonder if you or anyone else could successfully tempt anyone to that particular item...
