i think you're right. promise rings are for the young that will accept cheap rings. like a 16 or 17 year old that expects to wait three years. try that on an 18-20 year old. they want the real thing. the nice diamond engagement ring.
as i see it - i plan to give a sort of promise ring to my daughter when she is 16-17. when she looks at it - it will remind her that she is promised and holy to God. and, i hope a virgin when she marries. showing women they are valuable and loved is important for this age, imo. and, that they don't soley need a boyfriend to confirm it. and, hopefully the boyfriend will care about them as a person.
this world is so backwards, imo. i think women should have more value than the ring. but, the idea is that women can be bought. how stupid is that for women to think. no woman, in her right mind, should value herself under a million dollars. and i don't think of this monetarily - but according to worth to God.
The idea that woman should be bought as property and is of less value of course comes from the Holy Book.
"And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her." Ecclesiastes 7:26
And of course from the Decalogue:
"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's."
Putting the woman squarely on the level of slave and ox.
The backwards morality you talk about comes from some of the msot ancient ideas recorded by man!
