Playng with two hands?
on: July 10, 2007, 03:29:21 PM
Just bought my first keyboard, hoping to learn how to play.
Just a bit worried about the hand co-ordination!!!
I guess thats a issue with everyone when they start to play?
I used to play the snare drum in a grade 2 pipe band (British Legion Pipe Band) played for 4 years and was pretty good at it so hoping I wont suck to badly at the piano (totally different I know, but timing, reading sheet music, a little co-ordination I guess, should help a tad)
This is the keyboard Iv bought:

nothing special, just wanted a beginners one that was fairly cheep.
any tips or good websites to go on would be appreciated

You should play hands seperate first so you can get the rythm right for both hands, then when you play hands together try just playing one hand and think of the other hand as filling in the rest of the rythm.

What I do is, learn both hands, but separately. When I can play either hand without thinking, I then use Bernhards, "Dropping Notes", technique. This works for me. Thanks Bernhard.

Just a couple of examples.
Do a search in "Students Corner" for "Dropping Notes" and read the lot.
