What Are You Working On This Summer?
on: July 11, 2007, 03:26:39 PM
Hi,
this is mainly directed at those who are at college or some form of education and have the Summer holidays, but also to others who have jobs which allow this long period of free time.
As I have now had my last lesson of the term I am thinking of investing my time wisely this summer and getting some extra peices learned, along with my set peices from lessons to generally imrpove my playing and sight reading etc. For instance I am going to try;
-Chopin Etudes, 10 12* +10 4,
-Chopin - Raindrop prelude *
-Chopin - FI*
-Rachmaninoff Prelude in C# minor *
-Debussy - Arabesque No.1 ~
-Reinhold Impromptu. ~
I won't be doing all of these but it is a shortlist of some to start ets, it is very optimistic as some of these peices are just above my current level but I enjoy the challenge and generally find it more staisfying when you have pushed yourself.
I am also planing to try and get through as much of 'Tonal Harmony' as possible and improve my theory in that way.
I realise that some of you will have summer lessons but I was just wondering if anyone else was or always has done this, and what kind of stuff they like to work on.

well, my teacher usually teaches me for at least half of the summer hol but she will be away for 6 weeks so I have to do alot on my own. This is what i'm working on for this summer:
Competiton Repertoire
J.S Bach Partita No 2 in c minor
Haydn Sonata in E flat major L/59 (1st and 3rd movement)
Beethoven Sonata in A major Op.2 No.2 (1st and 3rd movement)
Rachmaninoff Prelude in G sharp minor Op.32 No.12
Chopin Etude in F major Op.10 No.8
Other Repertoire
Mendelssohn Rondo Cappriccioso
Prokofiev 4 of Visions Fugatives
Chopin Etude in G flat major "Black Key" Op.10 No.5
Schumann Piano Concerto in a minor
Repertoire that i'm starting on my own
Chopin Etude in C sharp minor Op.10 No.4
An Early 20th C piece by Debussy, any recommendations??

Reflets dans l'eau from the first book of Images, or Soiree Dans Grenade from Estampes.
