A Massive Glimpse Into Ligeti’s Pianistic Universe
Performing Ligeti’s complete Etudes is a challenge for any pianist. Young pianist Han Chen has received both attention and glowing reviews for his recording of the entire set for Naxos. Great Pianists That Have Left Us
on: March 23, 2004, 05:53:11 AM
Hi everyone, just thought of something that day, and just realised that the world has lost many great pianists in the space of 20 years. (1980 - 2000). Could they every be replaced?

1. Rubinstein (1982)
2. Richter (1997)
3. Gilels (1985)
4. Horowitz (1989)
5. Ogdon (1989)
6. Arrau (1991)
7. Michelangeli (1995)
8. Bolet (1990)
9. Cziffra (1994)
10. Gould (1982)
11. Kempff (1991)
12. Serkin (1991)
13. Cherkassky (1995)
14. Curzon (1982)
15. Solomon (1988)

I think there are more...

Sigh...

Just a thought...

What we are left with are the wealth of recordings or autobiographies they have left behind.

Care to share whether any of the pianists have left a really lasting impression on you and also inspire you in one way or another through their live performances or recordings or e.t.c?

Hi Zhiliang,
I'm also from Singapore. You can e-mail to me at wes_56@hotmail.com if you like.
I like the flamboyant pianism of Czffira in Transcendental Etude of Liszt, especially Mephisto Waltz. He was so energetic and passionate.
I remember Rubinstein in Chopin's Piano Concertos. How refined, majestic, free-flowing, and inspiring. How I wish I was in the live concert of his.
Richter's and Gilel's Tchaikovsky's Piano Concertos are marvellous, kingly and fiery. I hope I got my facts right.

Not forgetting Kempff's Beethoven's Appassionata, Moonlight and Tempest Sonatas. Though his interpretation may not be the best, I am particularly touched by his honesty, electrifying fast passages and introspection in the meditative passages.
