Yesterday I met a trucker at a bar. A real American big guy trucker. He asked me what I do and I said first: I am cycling through the US for vacation. He laughed loudly. "I'll throw you into the dust, believe me." he was really strong you know  Okay said I, I believe you. He asked what I work. I said that i am a piano teacher. He laughed even louder than before. " Get a real job, go working in the dust like i do, every day"( I skip the f... words here, lol ). I said i do work for making a living. And then I said that I have the idea to change roles for a day. I'd try to drive a truck and he tries to teach a kid the piano. He said; " NO way, i couldn't do this" Okay, here we are. At the end he said "I respect you VERY much for what you do!" I said "I respect you too for what you do, very much"
 Whose job would you like to do for a day?

Anyway, I'd take the teaching over driving any day, but I couldn't do any of the two, yet. I don't have my driver's license and I know too little about playing the piano to make a good teacher.

  Cool conversation pianowolfi. Driving a truck is a job, teaching and performing classical music for a living is a career. I dont think it's possible to force some-one to have a career in classical music, though it's fairly possible to force some-one into the legal or medical profession as a career. So if playing a piano recital in a grand hall is a job, i would love to do that for a day.  
   BTW a lot of these long distance drivers are x military men.

My stepdad drives a truck, I've heard of some of the messes a trucker can get into if he's careless.  I've heard of a guy who took a wrong road and wound up having to back down a busy street because there was an overpass that was too low for the truck, stopped traffic for a long time.  I'll take performance anxiety over that anyday

Driving can be boring, manual labour can be hard...  But learning piano then learning to teach it takes A LOT of effort over a long time.

I respect anyone who takes pride in doing a good job, they're the ones who don't hate their jobs.

Then I guess I would know what it's like to do that  .  Probably I would feel the weight of the other spoons on me and would know what it's like to wait my turn (I guess I would be really good at "spooning" too ) ... but you know, I (the person, me) have always been convinced that what we think of as inanimate objects are actually just pretending to be inanimate.  I mean, why not ?  They outsmart us humans that way.  If we knew that they were alive, we might make them do things for us that they weren't meant to do ... you know, treat them like slaves or something.  Plus, if they knew I was alive as a spoon, they might make me take my own baths and put my own self to sleep in the drawer ... I would be taken care of less (you know, neglected more).  If I were a spoon, I would make my life seem really boring to people (just to trick them) but I would secretly throw really great drawer parties.  Of course, I would really hope that my people had great hands and mouths .

Sometimes I (the person) get a little sad for a random spoon in the dirt ... I see them.  They were brought there by somebody (maybe even years ago) and just left there for some reason.  I wonder why they don't want to go home and be with their buddies ?  Maybe their home life wasn't really that good ... and, really, how could it be if somebody just took them there and left them (maybe the people just couldn't take care of them anymore and decided to "release them into the wild").

I can't decide if I would rather be a spoon in a set that is all matching, or if I would rather be a spoon in a set where each one of us is different ... that would be interesting.  If I were a spoon, I think I would like to be a real silver, but really old -- you know, not shiney anymore but capable of being shined up if somebody really took the time and made the effort.  I would like to have traveled the world.  You know, even if I were only a spoon for a day, I would still know what it felt like to be a spoon who lived for a really long time with a lot of different people and other spoons and flatware...

I think I would like to be a teaspoon sized spoon.

The latter (though, I would not want to do what he does for work, if that's what you mean).  After I wrote that list outloud, I realized (once again) how strange I am and just what my husband has to live with everyday.  I actually got a whole new appreciation ... LOL.

A few times I thought I heard party music and saw lights in the kitchen but thought it was just my imagination...  Cunning cutlery   But I can see why they wouldn't invite me, all I do is stir their shiny heads in hot soup, sometimes they accidentally drop in and cook with the soup.  I wouldn't want to party with anyone who did that to me either.

Maybe the unfortunate spoon busted its neck trying to scoop ice cream that was too hard for it.  Or it was a spoon that got to play in the dirt instead of food, got left behind and is now a home for some ants...  At least they don't ask for money.

You would be quite the adventurous little silver teaspoon, full of stories.  "The queen likes her soup lukewarm and smacks her lips after every slurp, what she doesn't know is I'm the same spoon used to unclug lettuce from the drain "

I would be an oar, like a big spoon used to stir up lakes. drifting around, stirring up eddies in the water, splashing faces and sometimes getting in a swordfight.  I would end my life as a piece of memorabilia up on the wall in a log cabin, well used, reminding people of exciting stories.

hee hee ... you know, though... I think spoons don't mind being used to stir hot soup -- yes, even if they fall all the way in.  That's one of the things they were made for, it's part of their full potential; it probably feels like exercise or something .  Plus, a nice bath or shower follows .
