Emil von Sauer: Etudes de Concert
on: July 17, 2007, 07:43:40 PM
I can't find anything about this group of etudes on this forum. Most of them are really beautiful. Anyone played some of them? Sauer has some really nice works.
Sheetmusic

And a little question; Are the etudes of heller (op. 46 and 47) good repertoire to prepare for works such as chopin's etudes and these etudes de concert?

I'm sorry if there are any english errors in this message  ;D

I did play the 5th (sort of) and almost crippled myself with the 4th. Have not looked at all of them, but i might have a bash at 20th. Most are probably beyond my feeble abilities.

Good music, but i think Sauer's best works are the Concerti.

Don't think that Heller is gonna help you old chap.

Well, i used to play a lot of Etudes, but i think the modern approach is not to bother unless they have musical value.

Heller will only help you play Heller, but playing Sauer will help you in playing Sauer. You could try the 5 morceau as a nice introduction to his works.

Even someone who can play all of the Chopin Etudes would have to labour some before mastering some of the Sauer Etudes.

the way I see etudes:
Work through a simple book of Czerny etudes.  Then work through either the art of finger dexterity or his School of Velocity.  Then you should be able to go to the etudes of Moscheles, Chopin, or Saint-Saens.  After SS's, you could do LIszt's.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

All of Sauer's piano music has been recorded on Danacord by Oleg Marshev.

I have played nos. 1 and 5 in concerts, both pretty pieces.
