Has anybody ever heard of the Essex brand? I bought an Essex upright a few months ago, I'm just wondering if anybody has had any experience with one.

Share us yours! What do you think of it? Who is it made by? This is another spin-off piano from Steinway, isn't it?

Yes, the Essex pianos have been designed by Steinway, however, are made by Young Chang (they are the lowest quality of Steinway/their spin-offs).  If your interested, here is the page with all the models :) :

They're actually beautifully built.  I went to the Steinway hall in NYC and tried out all of them in the show room, and decided on the darker-finish Formal French, which was not only nicely made, but had the kind of bright sound I was looking for :D  The piano has a soft pedal, a practice pedal, and a sustain pedal...it's a great piano, I'd recommend it to anyone, but I was just wondering if anybody has heard of them/played them, what their opinion is.  It was about....$6,000.  I need to tune it though!

I have an Essex upright at my house as well. I have the EUP-111F (French Provincial) one. Tbh, it's probably the "best" upright I've ever played (if you could say "best". Maybe I should've just said my favourite...). It's just not the same as a grand though (I'll be dreaming about getting a Fazioli for a long time before I actually get one probably :-\).

Maybe this isn't a problem for other people, but I have noticed that the keys seem to get sticky really easily, if the temperature/humidity isn't always JUST right. Also, just since this spring I've broken 3 strings on it. I don't know if this is actually something to do with the piano, or if it's just my playing though  ::)
