The Prodigy Who Saw Into the Future – Lili Boulanger’s Piano Music

A teenage girl with forward-looking ideas, Lili Boulanger had enough determination to successfully navigate the competitive, patriarchal, and conservative music scene of Paris. Despite a constant fight against illness, she achieved great mastery as a composer, and left behind a significant catalog of works characterized by intense emotional depth, in a sophisticated, post-Romantic, Impressionist style. Now, all her scores for solo piano are available to Piano Street’s members. Read more

I finally finished my book proposal!!

It's 9 pages and describes my book:

A Masterpiece Unveiled:  The Language and Logic of Berg's Piano Sonata Op. 1

Whew......that took me a while to write.

What publishers should I send it to?  I'm thinking start with Oxford and Cambridge University Press since they'll probably say **no!! *** (a fellow can dream!!)

Then progress to the smaller publishers that don't pay their authors -- like Ashgate.

Have you published an article yet? It might be better to start with that. Trying to get a book published by ANY publisher (let alone Oxford and Cambridge) is going to be hell, especially if you haven't published something smaller elsewhere.

In any case, I would advise against sending the same 9 page proposal to all publishers, simply because they all ask for different things. You need to go to their respective websites and send them EXACTLY what they want...no more, no less.

Good luck!

Andrew

P.S. May I read your proposal?
Asked if he had ever conducted any Stockhausen,Sir Thomas Beecham replied, "No, but I once trod in some."
