wanderer
on: July 23, 2007, 04:51:19 AM
inspired by paul wee's live performance recording, i started to tackle schubert's wanderer fantasy yesterday.
i usually am not fond of strong down beat of german masters(beethoven, barahms) .
but this piece is awesome!
the last allegro part is just soooo wild!
is there someone learning this piece right now?

btw, "he" seems like an very, very energetic wanderer......

I sort of did it last year but never got a chance to get beyond learning the notes unfortunatly. It's a fantastic piece!

Me thinks the Wanderer part only refers to the slow movt which is a transcription of his song, 'the wanderer'.  Not sure if it's Schubert's nick name for it.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

Actually, Mike, the slow movement includes some quotations, but it is far from a transcription.
The rhythmic idea, taken from the Wanderer Fantasia, is used throughout the piece , expanding the cyclicism of Beethoven.  All themes except for the first subsidiary theme of the scherzo are derived from that rhythmic idea.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

thanks for the input.
today i'm gonna learn the last allegro part and hopefully play through the piece tomorrow(roughly).
btw, i once heard someone mentioned "liszt's version of wanderer" in the chat room.
is it transcription of the song "wanderer"(like erlkonig) or liszt did some sort of arrangement to the piano piece "wanderer fantasy"?

However, Liszt also produced an "edition" as an editor where he provided numerous ossias.  That is what the people in the chat room were referring to.

Cheers,

Dan

this is a  beautiful piece
but bloody difficult
might be schubert's most difficult solo piano work?

WHY ALL THE GREAT WORKS HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT ? :(

Hi,i just finished this piece .Its really a very great piece in schubert's life .The fantasy  occupies  a special  position among the schubert's piano works.Composed  in 1822 .This piece stands as a guidepost to the future not  only in the matter of form, but also in its grandiose orchestral use of  the piano .
I learned this piece two month during my master concert .If you have some questions you can ask me .My teacher is a schubert expert .

One of the hardest pieces in the piano repertory (FRSM level too), good luck on that.

Make a blog of how it goes?
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
