I'm on level 2 on David Lucas Burge's relative pitch course, and there are a couple of drills where you're supposed to hear which interval is being played, just by hearing the bottom tone.
How does one develop the sense of hearing if the bottom tone is the first, third or the fifth note of the chord, so that you can hear which interval it is, no matter how many notes being played on top? I can sort of feel that the bottom tone of the first inversion is the sound I would connect with the starting tone of a descending major third interval, and if the root is being played, it feels a little fuller, but it's still all a guessing game. I guess the feeling of the first inversion gets another sound if it's minor too.
How does one develop the skill to really hear this, because I've listened to random chords being played for hours and I'm still guessing. Is anyone here doing this course, and have anyone completed these drills?
