Non legato scales
on: July 24, 2007, 06:57:32 AM
Plz help.

I can play the legato scales (major, melodic minor and harmonic minor) very good. Up to speed with the correct tone...but non legato scales seems to be a problem. I find it difficult to press the right keys when I play it up to speed....

Are you sure, your legato scales are legato scales?
The only difference between legato and non legato is, that one sounds like legato and the other sounds like non legato. Most people can't play legato scales at all. So I expect, your so called "legato" scales are non legato scales in reality.  ::)

What your non legato scales are - I don't know...  ???

I am playing an UNISA (University of South Africa) exam and I have some prescribed scales.

The articulation of these scales are legato and non legato. In other words you must play the scales legato or staccato.

Thanx

Perhaps you're pulling your fingers too high off the keys when playing the staccato scales?  That might explain your difficulty in hitting the correct notes.
