Further study?
on: July 28, 2007, 02:54:18 PM
Hi,
I am a 29 year old, in Singapore. Has been teaching piano for almost 5 years. I have been thinking of persuing a bachelor/diploma degree in music, but not quite sure which direction to head. Can anyone kind enough to give me any direction or suggestions?
I have both grade 8 in theory and practical, ABRSM. And currently just get an ATCL in performing.
Any recommended colleges/universities/conservatoires in Australia, Europe, or any part of US that one can think of? How about those in China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan??
Should I persue a degree in general music? Performing (probably too old?)? Pedagody? Or composing? Any pre-requisite qualification?? What will be the possible future scope for a degree holder on these fields?
Is it important to get a degree? Or further qualification (licietiated, fellowship)? Should I just continue teaching while persuing my diploma?
How much qualification is good enough to get a teaching job in college, conservatoire? It seems like it is impossible for my age to persue a performing career. Any aspects one can do that is related to music, instead of as a teacher, performer?
I am just confuse and feel kinda lost, even though my teaching does pick up and I have ample students to sustain a comfortable lifestyle. But the teaching mostly has taken its toll, and most of the time I find it too exhausted to concentrate on my own practicing or research study, which I prefer and enjoy very much.
Thanks for any suggestions.

You don't need to post twice. We saw your post in the performance board.
