Liberace: Chopsticks
on: August 02, 2007, 01:55:54 PM
It goes beyong kitsch, but has anyone transcribed Liberace's showpiece arrangement of Chopsticks?
If you haven't heard it or want to transcribe it if no-one else has, there's a video here: He plays it with As Time Goes By, Send in the Clowns and Vesti la Giubba from Pagliacci too.

I personally think it's a fantastic video, Liberace had an incredible tone particularly for clarity in th treble. I am also mystified how he could play the piano with so much jewelry
.
I remember he played it on the Muppet Show as well, but no-one has put that on Youtube thus far.
Cheers

Does anyone else here think the opening of Liszt's 'Orage' (AdP - Suisse No.5) sounds like the Gymnopedie from Hell?

I think someone asked him that once and he replied "very well thanks".
I have not seen a transcription of his "chopsticks", but i guess it would not be difficult to work out. I have seen a transcription of his "boogie woogie", but i think that was not too difficult either, since it was a glitzed up version of an old Albert Ammons number.
Personally, i admit to liking him and his music. The music world always needs characters.
