on: August 09, 2007, 11:41:20 AM

I think many on here could judge the accuracy very well.  I played this etude once in competition (awhile ago, so it's not "in my fingers" anymore so to speak) and it's one of my favorites...

10/2, what do you say?

I say NO.

I say let's duel using either -

LH inversion (doctech) of 10/2 , or the Godowsky LH 10/2.

I rape 10/4 too easily.

I mean 10/4 is more like a car race, it can swerve all over the place.

10/1 to some degree, and especially 10/2 are like a train on the tracks.

It feels *locked in*, but if more speed than you handle is applied, it can go off the rails completely, and becomes almost impossible to recover properly.

Opus10no2 can't even play any Chopin etudes. He can't play anything. Look at that stupid video of him trting to playop25no12. You can tell that even when he is fooling around he his a crap pianist! Look at the state of his wrists!

I say op10no4 tomorrow! If not then you's have both failed. Only way forward. In my opinion a pianist should beable to play op10no4 at a moments notice. I know elevateme can, becasue I've known him for a long time, and I've seen him play op10no4 millions of times for years. But wait till op10no2 posts his first! Like soliloquy said.

Can we all just notice that op10no2 avoids any questions about how many concerts he gives...where he studies....how many concerto's he's played with orchestras etc.. becasue his pianistic achievments are non existant! Therefore his opinions on anything are worthless. Anyone can sit and tell people about technique, but will you be able to stand in fromt of hundreds of people and do it? Thats a test, and if you havn't done that what right do you have to preach? You are like a legless man teaching people how to run.

ok ok it doesnt have to be note perfect. but it should be reasonably good.

They do not contradict eachother...'rape' means 'play quickly but inaccurately'.

I prefer stuff like 10/2, accuracy easier, speed harder.

I haven't played 10/2, but I have played 10/4 since I was like 16, and found it easy to play fast --speed and accuracy wasn't a problem either.  I don't know why it's so diffucult for you unless you can't play it at all.  Chopin's etudes go hand in hand with accuracy and speed -- if you have one the other is up there as well, or you don't have either very well.  Unless you really suck.  That's a distinct probability.

If you can't play accuratly you can't play it then you silly person. I doubt you can play op10no2, it's one of the hardest etudes, and considering you can't play op10no4 what chance do you have? You turned down the challenge of op10no4 for september!! hahaha. You should be able to play op10no4 at full speed in a week! Quite easily if you can play op10no2 accuralty as you seem to be insinuating.

You also claim I should prove my speed at op10no4 and you havn't even studied it yourself? So how do you know how hard it is? If you'd studied it you'd realise it is sooo easy to play super speed. Accuracy is easy as well. Clarity and legato is harder though.

I haven't learned 10/4 yet :(

I think someone is presenting a really weak case here (not jlh), really...

Learn the notes (one day) keep under speed for 3 days. Doing practice methods etc.. and then on 5th day start playing 3/4 speed. By the 7th day you'll have it full speed  :) A very easy etude to learn fast.

Hey, I'll try this strategy for 10/4... but only after the conservatory auditions in January, meh not wanna risk too much before that. :D

Seriously, opus10no2, just post any chopet recording of yours, so that you maintain at least some credibility. So far, you haven't provided any backup to your claims. Which is, to say it very mildly, suspicious.

Seriously, did you expect anything more from him?

Steven Turnbull, aka comme le vent, aka stevie, aka opus10no2 is the online equivalent to one of those wannabe punkass kids loitering around the parking lot of the grocery shop. Ideologically he's similar to them. You can never wholly overthrow his arguments nomatter how hard you try, he'll still cling to his beliefs dogmatically, twisting whatever little truth lies at the basis of them in vain attempt to prove he's not full of utter bullshit. And as for his piano playing, just listen to that joke of a 25/12. Just like those wannabe punk kids who think it's cool to not know how to play the instrument. Loud, fast and furious eh? His fury is equivalent to a 4 year old temper tantrum.

So what stopped you from becoming one of those kids, Stevie? Your social ineptness? Oh thats right, blame your aspergers. Starting a thread flaunting your mental disorder in hopes of making people understand you. Pathetic. That's all you'll ever be.

You are being to harsh on him. That 25.12 was just a joke. And how long had he actually played when he posted that one? Very short if I remember correctly.

Also he has posted an improv wich was very good imo.

well when you say that it's easy to play Op.10 No.4 fast, it's not true. Maybe it's easy for you because you have big hands.

Anyway i'll judge too

I don't have big hands and I'd say I could play it fast. Dexterity is all thats needed for fast finger playing, and I'd assume that decent pianists have good dexterity. There is nothing in op10no4 that needs a big hand at all.
