Questions about music theory test (for placement in BM in performance programs)
on: August 13, 2007, 12:14:48 PM
Does this test include music history or principles of 20th century music? As a previous non-major, I am going to study first "Tonal Harmony" by Kostka and Payne, but do you think I will need other textbooks as well to prepare for it? Because I will need to spend more hours on practising for the audition, I don't know if I can spare enough time for studying over 800 page long music history book by Grout and Pascalia...
BTW, I will apply for the piano performance programs (BM) in U Cincinnati, UIUC, Ohio State Univ., etc...Is there anyone who knows how the theory exams are like in those universities?

I ever asked about the theory test and they told be it includes rudiments, basic harmony and basic history that's about all you need to know...but for myself I won't need to take it cauz i've done these exams.
