prove to me that russia was fighting germany on any soil but it's own.  were they saving auschwitz camp survivors, or dauchau camp survivors.  how come they were still there when we got there?

I'm offended again by you pianistimo!

The Russians helped save Norway! And they never did us any harm :)

But America should also be thanked, they saved us too. But please for G-d's sake don't talk bad about what the Russians did against Hitler. You can hate Soviet all you wan't but all Soviet victories over Hitler was a victory for freedom!

i'll tell you why we know.  the term 'inalienable rights' comes from the bible.  we are made in God's image.  free.  like God.  not to be slaves of a dictator.  our own civil war proved these truths for certain to people by the leadership of abraham lincoln.  may he rest in peace.

Susan - just wrap it - for my sake, Thal's sake, the forum's sake, and, last but not least, GOD's sake, WRAP IT!

You mean well, I have no doubt, but you are insulting and putting people off the true Christian way, which is a most important but not exclusive way to salvation (whaever that may be). Please, just stop it. I read what you write when you get to take your soapbox for a ride with you on your hobby-horse and I am conscious not of God, Jesus, Christianity or even narrow-mindedness and bigotry but Susan, Susan and more Susan. I don't particularly want there to be less Susan, Susan - so PLEASE stop all this bigoted ranting, for it is deeply insulting and nauseating to so many decent human beings who happen not to share your severely limited life-view.

I'm sorry - I really don't mean or wish to sound offensive for the sake of so doing, but at the same time I don't know how else to express this and be honest about it.

Best,

Alistair

march 12, 1940 'soviet-finnish war ends.'  hmm.  ok.  right before WWII- yes. that makes sense.  and also, they knocked over chopin's statue in poland.  they were like bulls in a china closet.  i'm sure they did help - but april 20, 1940 the british land troops in norway.  later on, churchill does his best to keep the navy going and doing his part in defending as best he could.

truly, being offended by someone who didn't even fight the war  - when another war is looming on the horizon is like someone who didn't let go of a grudge with a family member and wants to kill the wrong side.  do you want freedom or do you want a dictator?  the muslim way is just as much dictatorship as you'll ever find.  do you want to be forced to one religion only.  in america there are many religions that worship freely.  is this the case for the world in the years to come?

ask any soldier that's still alive or read some memoirs.

OK, i just rung my Great Uncle Sid and he said you are talking out of your arse. He fought in the desert and was continually having to battle to retake towns that the Americans lost.

No doubt the Americans did help greatly in the war for which us English are eternally grateful, but at least the Russians did not make us pay for it on a 60 year loan.

Your warped view of history is almost as laughable as you warped view of geography.

would your uncle sid have preferred to fight alone?  we're brothers in battle and it's crazy that he's now saying that the cost of the war should have been soley on america.  we all shared a huge burden of debt and still do.

your uncle sid is still special.  so is churchill.  without him - england would have sufferred much more.

also, they knocked over chopin's statue in poland.

Great point, that proves everything you said.

Go to your local school and ask if you can sit it on some lessons with 5 year olds. You might learn something.

He did not say that and neither did i, if you read my post correctly.

I was making the point that the Russians did not charge us for the next 60 years.

i'm saying russia isn't exactly out for humanitarian reasons all the time.  look at chechnya.  thal - you need a head thumping.  and, some stacks of old national geographic magazines (which i happened to read on my own - as well as go to school).

Then what do you need?

Susan, you seem to be degenerating into some kind of one-way-traffic person who can increasingly see and sense less and less of what anyone else is about. Just stop it. This is getting exceedingly wearing and upsetting.

what about reparations for burning the white house in the war of 1812?

ok. alistair.  temporarily i will refrain from this silly argument - as we have more important things looming ahead of us.  2010 should prove a pivotal year and it's not far away.

My dear Susan, if you can really promise (and keep that promise!) that you'll truly refrain from any further input whatsoever to what you personally admit to being a "silly argument" at least until 31 December 2010 - in other words a whole 1229 full days - I will promise to open a bottle of Krug in celebration and all you have to do is find your way over here to share it with me (impossible, on previous form, I know, given your unique propensity for non-travelling, but that fact does not prevent me at least from issuing the invitation)...

True, it is the World Cup.

Nothing else is due that year to my knowledge, unless it is the 2nd coming or some other fanatical rubbish like that.

pp,

You went a bit over the top here.  Let me bring you back on topic and ask you a serious question.

You recommended Alistair read the Bible daily, did you not?

Do you really think it is a good idea for a skeptic to read the Bible?  In my experience, unless you are already a true believer prepared to overlook every possible contradiction or confusing item, reading this will decrease faith instead of increasing it.

There are places where four people tell the same story in different ways.  There are places where the advice is opposite (swords into plowshares, plowshares into swords, etc.)  There are lots of concepts in the standard denominational doctrines that can't be found anywhere clearly in the Bible, such as original sin, afterlife, Trinity, Holy Spirit as a person, rapture, millenium, etc.  If the bible had a single clear message we wouldn't have almost 23,000 different brands of Christianity.

I would suggest something vastly different.
