Foerster grand pianos
on: August 24, 2007, 03:05:06 AM
I am drivng to a dealership tommorow outside of New York City (80 miles form my home in Philadelphia) to play on a Foerster 7'2' Grand. I've read a great deal about their quality and am extremely curious to play and hear for my self. Anyone have comments, experience about the Foester concert grands. How do they compare to Steinways for instance?

You will love the Forster 215 at Altenburg's. They are a much more refined piano when compared to S&S.

I bought mine from Fred A. about two years ago.

It was a wonderful experience, and well worth the drive. I'm just north of you in the ABE area.

No pressure, no hassles, and if none of the AFs there suited, Fred offered to open ones still in crates. I did find one -- for me, the perfect one.

Everything went like clockwork, from completing the transaction to the delivery and setup. Not a single false move. And I know from other AF owners that if some issue arises, Fred meets you at least halfway.

Enjoy!

I agree with Curry.  It is a very good design and it is very well executed.  Plus a piano benefits greatly from prep, and more often than not S&S pianos receive very little love in that department.

Puccini's piano.  Also Prokofiev's.

Plus, as far as I know you can buy 2 for what you usually need to buy a smaller Steinway B.
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

7'2" concert grannd---$45,000---superb instrument----rich clear bass, treble and upper register like diamonds---fab action light as a feather but not hyper active like a blutner-----flawless. I'm still partial to my NY S7s B, but the Forste is nothing to sneeze at. i was extremely impressed with the instrument. Altogether different sound from S&S. Like ice with fire inside. projection in treble and upper reg was amazing. Beautiful looking as well---impeccable. Practicing on this, if you are used to S&S. would change your conceptualization of music a bit---I definitely would buy it as a second piano above any other.

When I was in the market for a grand I was on a limited buget. I had to go used or one of the asian pianos new. I must have tried 30-40 different pianos and did not find anything that really pleased me with regards to sound, touch, etc.... I finally found a used Forster. It was exactly what I was looking for. After doing a lot of reasearch on pianos I found that the quality fo the forster is right up there with the very BEST. If I had the money for a new piano I would definitely buy the Forster. I plan on restoring this one over the next few years. Good luck with your purchase I know you will be pleased.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
