Am I getting a good deal on this 5'3"?
on: August 24, 2007, 05:22:01 AM
I am in the market for a baby grand piano but only have room for one in the 5'3"-5'5" range (5'10" maybe but that's really pushing it). I want a handmade piano...not a machine made Asian variety. A local Piano City had a disaster to their building forcing them to close so they have a very aggressive sale going on. They are selling a Pramberger Platinum 5'3" for $14,500 which I know retail at about $24K. my question is whether I'll be happy with the sound on a 5'3" and if this is a good piano for the price?

Is there anything else in the $15K price range I should look at instead?

Not being nasty, but isn't this an Asian piano? I saw a Mason&Hamlin B in a store recently for less than $30K; they also had regular Prambergers, they were OK, I guess.

Call Keith Kerman in Washington DC.  He offers grands for 15K and less (and much more if you want) and his pianos are all gold.

Only buy a piano if you love the sound.  Don't let the price sway you.  Spend a lot of time with this piano you are considering--play it for at least an hour.
