Please help me build my program
on: August 31, 2007, 02:35:43 PM
well, i have few pieces
and i want to make a program, a romantic program
so the pieces i have are (some learnt and some in progress)

Scriabin Sonata no.2
Franck Prelude Fugue & Variation Op.18 (Piano transcription)
Brahms Rhapsody in G minor Op.79/2
Henselt Impromptu No.3

Mazurkas: Op.6/1 by chopin, Op.75/10 by Anton Rubinstein, Op.9/3 by Scriabin
Etudes: Op.2/1 and Op.8/7 by Scriabin
Preludes: Op.11 - 6,10,14,24 by Scriabin
Mendelssohn SWW Op.19/1

i don't need to use all of the pieces
but the must-have pieces are the first four
where and which pieces do u suggest to put between the four pieces?
and in which order to play ?

I believe that there should be at least a bit of period contrast.  I don't think that any of these particularly lend themselves to a programmatic theme, but how abot if you dropped the Franck or the Brahms, Opened with the Mendelssohn Lied Ohne Worte, followed with the largescale work (Scriabin Sonata).  Contrast that with the Henselt, then follow with the Brahms or Franck (one you didn't drop), and then did the Scriabin preludes to finish.

Alternatively, drop the Scriabin Sonata and have the Franck as the largescale work.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

if i have 2 others pieces: Bach Fantasia & Fugue in A Minor and Haydn Fantasia in C major
how could those pieces with the other mentioned above fit a program ? (and still please give me advices how to make a program without the bach & haydn pieces)

Hodi,my advice...Do NOT build program without Bach and Haydn, they are a head of all,and trust me,everyone thinks that the program is WAY BETTER,than starting with some romantic piece...

I suppose Antonio Pompa-Baldi was incompetent in his programming, omitting both Bach and Haydn when he performed at my school :D.  He did, however, play a Clementi Sonata and a variety of romantic pieces.

I highly recommend Bach as an opener, although Handel, Telemann, Scarlatti, and others are great Baroque composers.  I don't know the Bach ... or the Haydn for that matter :p.
Why not open with Bach, then play the Scriabin Sonata.

Bach -F&F in Am
Scriabin- Sonata Fantasy in G Minor, Op. 22 (?)
Haydn- Fantasia in C
Franck- Prelude Fugue and Variation
Scriabin Preludes

i don't understand
why all programs have to be baroque-classic-romantic
what's wrong with some great romantic masterpieces?
why do i have to follow the formula like a robot?

and u have to admit that most people prefer the romantic period...

I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ROMANTIC PIECES,I'm just giving you a ADVICE,because I had many, many competitions and exams that this worked,I'm not telling you to be a robot, and play this, this, than this,I'm telling you what is better_for me,and my many year expirience.
You realise that if we had a step by step programs,we would do Chopin etudes on master studies, and Liszt transc.etudes...about hmmmm Never?
It's good to take risc somethimes, that is primary what is mking us,the PLAYERS,NOT ROBOTS.
I will tell you one more thing_One dud from my olace playes modern piece first and end up with Bach...And tacher's were like WHAT?You have to have a conentration for folowing the voices in prel.fuge...and other harder pieces above....and you won't have that concentr.at the END.
