suggestion for repertoire?
on: September 03, 2007, 10:34:30 AM
Hello everybody, im new to the forum and i apologise if im at a wrong thread. ;D

Im 15 this year and i finished my piano abrsm grade 8 2 years ago, and i've been thinking about taking my ATCL recital examination in the near future.

i've read through the list of suggested repertoires on their website, and it would be great if anyone of you professionals out there could help suggest some pieces for me? Preferably those that are not too high a difficulty level. I have no teacher currently and i would like to start practicing the pieces on my own for the time being.

Thank you. :)

It would help if you would be more specific: composers you like, composers you need to start learning, pieces you have played, pieces you want to play etc.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

it'll be great if anyone can share their own repertoire. (:
basically its supposed to be about 4 pieces- 35mins.
i would love to play pieces preferably by chopin, debussy, schumann, mozart?
and somehow, i seem to be much better at playing 20th century pieces.
i know this sounds really vague but im pretty much clueless.

Mozart - Sonata in D K. 311
Chopin - Polonaise in C# minor op. 26 no. 1
Poulenc - Novelettes no. 1 & 2

i've got this somewhere and it looks quite good. how is it?
any suggstions are welcomed.

Handel-Chaconne in G major
Mozart sonata
Chopin-maybe the barcarolle, a scherzo, or a ballade?
messiaen-one of the vingt regards maybe

you may not be familiar with the handel, but its about 8 minutes and substantialy easier than bach suites. it would fit perfectly in your program.

if you need the score for it then pm me.

Some suggestions since I'm too lazy to type out my rep.
Debussy Estampes(one or all), L'isle joyeuse
Prokofiev Sonata instead of Visions Fugitives if your technique permits(yes Amelia, it's fugItives in case you haven't noticed ;) )
Chopin Etudes op.10/25(I would personally recommend op.10-1,2,4,5,8,9,11,12 op.25-1,2,3,4,6,8,10,11 for no reason 'cept I feel these help your technique more than the others)
