I am trying out some Woelfl at the moment and remain very impressed.

Not "Beethoven" level, but a nice alternative. I understand Beethoven admired his compositions.

Quality forgotten composer that deserves further investigation.

Antonin Reicha - the 36 fugues are just astounding.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

Soler is baroque one moment (when he's ripping off Scarlatti's style) and classical the other (when he's trying do his own thing, unsuccessfully i might add).

1. CPE Bach wasn't classical.  He was empfinsamkeit.

2. Hummel and Clementi were a bit late.  I wouldn't count them.

3.  Schubert

Hummel and Clementi couldn't possibly be more archtypically classical.

Kozeluch (1747-1818) apparently wrote  a handful of piano concertos, not that I ever heard any of them.

Clementi was born before Mozart, so hardly late.

I'm sorry.  I was wrong- although a lot of their works were written in the romantic period, were they not?
