Looking for suggestions
on: September 25, 2007, 07:36:43 AM
I've recently started trying to teach myself how to play the piano, and I'm looking for suggestions on pieces to start on. To give an idea of what I'm looking for:
I have about 8 years of music background playing the trumpet throughout school; though most of my growth had to be in high school considering my instructor insisted we play college level pieces. I love string instruments, but didn't have a chance to get involved in them in school since the set up was a concert band. I can read right hand fairly quickly, but am struggling a bit with left hand, and with getting both coordinated. I want to focus on classical because of the technical difficulty, and I have a tendency to grow fastest when I'm given pieces just a bit above my level due to the fact that I get obsessive about getting it right. As long as I can tell I'm making progress I don’t get discouraged easily.
Does anyone have suggestions on a few good starting pieces?

Hi, I would suggest 1. Bach Anna Magdelena notebook, and 2. the learn to play piano books by Howard Kasschau (both on Amazon.com). I learned to play from both these and they contain "real" classical pieces.
cheers, Kylie
