Perfume
on: October 19, 2007, 10:22:00 AM
Dear forumeers,
Does anyone also find that it is hard to find a good perfume.  I mean, I for example fond of "Le troisième homme" of Caron, but the stuff isn't made anymore.  On the other hand, qualitie of actual perfumes is so disappointing.  I was also fond twenty years ago of Jacomo de Jacomo, but when I smell the actual Jacomo de Jacomo, it smells so different.  Too much alcohol, too artificial, too light, no intensity etcetera.  Does anyone have an advice of a good perfume that is still produced ?
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Kindly.

the expensive ones?  that use a lot more essential oils and less of the pheromone stuff that stinks.  isn't it also in the processing of the oils directly from the source instead of three times removed.  i really don't know.  i'm just guessing.

lately i have found that body lotions are my favorite thing because the alcohol disappears rather quickly with body heat - and you are left with the essential fragrance of the oils themselves.  also, they're not as overpowering as the spritzes with the alcohol.  alcohol dries your skin anyways.

this is a feminine perspective on it, of course - because i always like to smell aftershaves that do have alcohol - and make a man smell very good.  forget putting pheromones into perfume - i say.  i think every man (and woman) has natural pheromones that they should find a perfume to compliment.  there are actually perfumes that work against a person's natural odor or style.  you have to find something that fits you personally.  not a brand that many other people use.

scents seem to change, also - from the initial spritz to an hour later.  i think you have to experiment and see what smells good and seems to be the longest lasting.

another nice thing is scented candles.  it just makes everything in the house smell nice.  unfortunately, my husband is allergic to scents - so i do this early in the day so it kinda dissipates.

Somebody once told me that most perfumes contain trout spunk.

Think of this when you next perfume yourself.

but, zheer, spending time smelling perfume can make you look better actually.  you breathe in a good smell and it makes you smile.  and, most guys agree that women who exercise look better that women who spend 3 hours putting on makeup.  although a combination of all doesn't hurt.  for myself, i attempt to streamline things as i haven't the time to spend hours on any of the above.  i used to when i had no children.  that is why moms often look a little out of sorts.  you know - the hemline that went last month and you forgot and hung it back up in the closet.  things are getting better now, though because the youngest is in school.    having a few hours to do anything (ie play piano) is nice.

and, since this is a thread about perfume and not knocking people out over ridiculous fashion anyways - i prefer to talk about perfume.  i happen to watch that show 'designers challenge' (i think that's what it's called) where designers have to come up with a line of clothing and then get the correct models ready - and put the clothes on the runway.  half of the stuff has extremely large features in one place or another.  for instance, a sleeve that is the size of a continent or pants that end in the nether region of the pubic area or a neckline that ends at your belly button.  i was thinking 'hmm...the unfortunate things is that even after spending hours on oneself - one could look a bit ridiculous.  why not design one's own clothing.  this is a round-about way of saying i might take it from square one again now that i have some time.  jeans and T-shirts have been a staple for a long time.  or, completely dressing up.  i don't have a lot of stuff in-between.

as far as 'trout spunk' - i haven't any idea what you are talking about thal?  it must be the low end shops in gravesend that give you these fishy ideas.

I think once that nasty "Axe" sh*t that everyone was drenching themselves in so you could smell them from 50 feet away came out, everyone started using that, and when everyone realized how crappy it was, cologne went out of style >>  I've always thought it was sorta sleezy myself XP  Maybe you should try some girlhunting with no cologne?

Anyway everyone always tells me that White Shoulders is just as good as anything else, but what do I know about perfume?

I don't know about that Soliloquy

A bunch of women have told me I always smell great, and that it is so very imporant that guys should!

Maybe they are the type of girls that like sleazy guys, of which i am anything but.(:
