Dumbledore is gay
on: October 21, 2007, 02:37:23 AM
Not that that there's anything wrong with that.

Dumbledore is gay, and JK Rowling says so.   :o :o :o

Check it out and more here...

I don't think she said he was gay, just that he looked a little queer.

I think Rowling kept Dumbledore's sexuality quiet until now because there would have been a backlash from the Christian Right if she would have outed him earlier, you know, book burnings, calls for it to be withdrawn from schools....."J K Rowling wants to turn our little boys into homosexuals and god hates fags" ... you could write the script  ::)

Oh yeah, they did the book burning and banning even when they thought he was straight.

Of course blind Freddy could have told you Dumbledore was gay, but the the loony religious right is so IQ-challenged they would never have picked up on it  ;)

Why would she even say that?  I don't understand the motives.  What is the point; to piss off some people or something?  Who even cares about Harry Potter any more besides some 11 year old girls who have a crush on Daniel Radcliffe?  Also, what does sexuality have to do with a children's book o.O  It just seems so pointless and attention-seeking to me personally.

According to the article, somebody asked whether Dumbledore would ever find love, and she answered that she always thought he was gay, and "swore off" (paraphrasing) love after a crush turned nasty. I don't think she did it to piss people off, that was probably just the way the character turned out. I don't think she would have said it unless asked, it isn't really important to the storyline. Also, i don't think Rowling really needs more attention.

I don't think, I don't think, I don't think.

agree with gymnopedist.

Well, an author has his/her own world of story. And in Rowling's case, her Harry Potter imaginative world must have been spread even wider than what we read from the book. And I guess she just want to share more about it to the fans...  :-\

Maybe because Harry Potter is not a children's book. I mean in spite of the fact that even teens and adults are reading it the target includes kids that are past what I would call a "child" ,which is around 10, and feelings, doubts, sensations of personality affirmation and interests and attractions for the other sex, the same sex or both the sexes already exist and are pretty strong too.

Same thing could be said of why we look into the lives of the composers we study.  It fits into the context of the music.

This back story idea of Dumbledore being gay is most likely part of the context of the story, and there may be hints in the text which may have been passed of as superfluous before but now have more context.
