Transit damage to black polyester gloss finish.
on: October 21, 2007, 10:23:50 PM
Having read the excellent advice given to the removal of smudge marks on a piano finish, I would be grateful if anyone could give me some reassuring advice on the restoration of a friction mark which must have happened in transit on a new grand piano. The mark looks like a haze or smudge on the polyester ebony gloss finish and is about 8cm long by 3cm wide. On close inspection you can see fine scratches in the mark which could possibly have been caused by a strap securing the case of the piano in transit.
The dealer has reassured me (without seeing the damage) that this kind of thing often happens when pianos are moved and can be repaired. I was told that the when the tuner comes to do the complimentary tuning it will be repaired then.
Has anyone else had this experience? Any advice or information about the best way to repair this will be gratefully received.
Kind regards,
Robert.
