Peter Serkin

Hey everyone,
I saw him play Bach's d minor concerto with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra last night. It has to be the most inspiring LIVE Bach performance I have ever heard. I know many people don't like him - why? What are your thoughts?

Asked if he had ever conducted any Stockhausen,Sir Thomas Beecham replied, "No, but I once trod in some."

People often times compare him to his father and always expect a legendary performance. His performances of mainstream rep give me mixed feelings. They are sometimes good, but not striking. However, his recordings of contemporary music, in my opinion, are very good and often go unnoticed. If he was recognized for this more, he would have more fans possibly.

His Brahms 1 recording is a solid performance in my opinion.

For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert. (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)
