Recommendations please?
on: November 08, 2007, 11:18:26 AM
Could anyone recommend to me which of the Beethoven Sonatas would be either the easiest or the best for me to learn (please don't say Moonlight, I have tried and failed to learn that simply because I got bored)

I would like to learn all of the movements, so if one movement isn't drastically difficult that would be good...

Pianochick93,

I have read some other posts in which you have listed your current repertoire. As far as I know, this will be your first attempt at learning an entire Beethoven sonata - I would advise you stick to one of the following:

Op. 10 No. 1
Op. 14 No. 1
Op. 49 No. 1 or 2
Op. 79

They are all fairly short and they are amongst the easiest of the 32. I would place the order of difficult, from least difficult to most difficult, as follows:

Op. 49/2
Op. 49/1
Op. 79
Op. 10 No. 1
Op. 14 No. 1

Of course, this is my own opinion, and it is based entirely on technical issues.
Asked if he had ever conducted any Stockhausen,Sir Thomas Beecham replied, "No, but I once trod in some."

Add op. 54 in f major to mcgill's list. 2 movements with a hilarious 2nd movt.

Thats pmz, though I have already started the Pathetique. I can only play the 2nd mvt so far, but I'm slowly getting better at the first.
