We were taught in music college not to raise the fingers too high when playing scales, as this promotes stiffness. Also, undulating motions of the wrist are wonderful for producing beautiful tone in slow movements.
Ultimately, you'll have to find your own way of balancing wrist and finger technique. The journey is part of the fun. Good luck!
