Yes, I need all your advice!
on: November 12, 2007, 01:47:06 PM
I am on a quest to try as many different beers that are avaible out there.. I will buy/order one bottle each from every brand that I have never tasted before.

BUT

This is not the only quest I'm undertaking... My other quest is to learn more about present day, modern music. With modern I mean composers who are still alive, who are still even young, or composers who lived in the last centurary (1900-2000)

So...

I would like from you a list, with your favourite 'modern' composers and their music!

Preferably, like the beer, one track per composer. But if you really think there's got to be two or three listed, well then that's fine too.

Make em count, because I will search for all you come up with!

Oh, before I forget.. Thanks :)

Do you mean, you would like to receive recordings of these composers? Where should we send them?

But anyway, some suggestions that other members of this forum might not make:

Ronald Stevenson, b.1928 ( I suggest 'Nocturne: The Hushed Song' from the song cycle 'Border Boyhood')
Alan Bush,1900-1995 (I suggest the scherzo of his Nottingham Symphony, or if you want a piano track one of his Preludes)
Steve McNeff, b. about 1955 I guess (I can't suggest piano music because I don't know if he's written any yet, but I could send you and excerpt from his opera 'Clockwork' if I can find the disc)
John Foulds d. 1939
Bernard van Dieren 1887-1936
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco 1895-1967
Ildebrando Pizzetti 1880-1968

Plenty more suggestions if you want!

I would like you to name the composer, and one of their tracks. (or more) I will then search for those tracks myself.

But if you would like to send tracks to me, then you are most welcome. I don't think email would be a good idea, but megaupload or yousendit are good examples..

Btw, thanks for the list, I will dive into it and seek it out :D

Can I add myself to your list? I like my compositions and my influences are Chopin and Beethoven. My style is neo-romantic. Good luck with the rest of your list and your beer collection.

My compositions are slowly being downloaded on to my website. I've just started the process with a short, fast compositon called Run Man, Run! You can check it out at musicmasterstudios.com

Good luck in learning all your future repertoire selections.
