How hard is Cat and Mouse?
on: November 13, 2007, 08:46:21 PM
How hard is the song "Cat and Mouse" by Aaron Copland? I know it's very showy, and the turbulence makes it sound quite impressive. But how hard is it to play? Is it up there with such songs as La Campanella and Islamey, or is it just a easy yet show-offy piece?
Working on:
Beethoven - Waldstein Sonata
Bach - C minor WTC I
Liszt - Liebestraume no. 3
Chopin - etude 25-12

I've seen the sheet music for this piece. I haven't played it, but everything looks pretty straightforward. I hear it isn't bad either.

I would say it's quite easier than La Campanella and Islamey. They're levels apart.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

It sounds harder than it is,  like Khachaturian's "Toccata". It's not that difficult.

Like all of Copland, it's not too hard to cover the notes, but hard to play well.

In other words, it's easy to play unless you want to play it like this:

Unlike La Campanella or Islamey, it is not a song.  :o  ::) ::) ::)

Not to mention that "easy" begins with a vowel and therefore necessitates an "n" at the end of "a."

Please stop unnecessarily critiquing my grammar. I am 14 years old and have not finished school, and therefore my grammmar may not be completely perfect. However, this does not give a valid reason for you to make pointless, space-wasting  messages that have no purpose whatsoever except to put down (or "educate" me).

Sorry, no offence. I am sure my grammar is even worse. Just wanted to point out that neither Cat and Mouse, La Campanella, or for the same reason Islamey are songs.

Sorry if I offended you- it was meant capriciously.

That's a terrific performance! I hope you post more Youtube videos.

What were the circumstances? It looks like you snuck onstage to play after the orchestra went home...

Well, thanks.  I have to admit that I'm quite pleased with how it all turned out.  This was during the intermission at my Youth Symphony Concert, I having won the Solo Competition.

But yea, I really shouldn't have spammed it on this thread.  I apologize.

I think that it is a diploma Level song in ABRSM. Not sure about Islamey but La Campanella is in LRSM. Way harder than Copland's piece.
