Nah, works for a couple hours and then you wake up, laying in bed and starring at the sealing like an idiot  >:(

I have it. Honestly, I just overdose on sleeping medication. Not like Liza Minnelli overdose, but a little more than the recommended. I've tried about every kind too. Lunesta, Rozerem, Trazadone, plain Melatonin, and so far the best (and the cheapest) has been Tylenol Simply Sleep. Although sometimes if i really can't sleep then take the Simply Sleep and Melatonin. It literally has the effect of carbon monoxide.

I think you mean mg  ;)

3mg is enough to make me sleep, at 150 pounds.

I dunno your weight, so adjust accordingly.

Chopininov, please tell me a review of your sleeping meds--what you like and why.

At the moment I'm in love with Amitriptyline......only 12$ a bottle--it's prescription--very little hangover and quite effective without many side effects--just dry mouth, which is no big deal.  And totally non-addictive.  My favorite.

I've tried ambien--makes me crazy and disoriented.  I've tried benadryl, but I get immune after 3 nights.  Tried valerian.  Tried unisom.  Tried Effexor even.  Don't do that one, it makes you fat.

Melatonin does not put me to sleep, it just gives me a splitting headache.

Any prescription meds will (or should) be better than any over the counter stuff.

Your best bet is there, have you consulted a specialist if it's that bad a problem?

EDIT: Well duh, since you got a prescription. Mea culpa.

I have it. I am more concerned at the moment about killing the neighbours chickens that start crowing and 3 bloody am!!! Thats about the time ive been getting to sleep lately. I have to close my windows in the boiling heat so i dont have to hear cockle doodle bloody doo! cockle doodle bloody do!

But yes, insomnia. I find when im happy and goal focused I sleep very well. When im not putting off things that need to be done i sleep very well. Unfortunately thats not all that often.

So its cockle doodle do's for me at bed time.

Exercisizing is a great in the evening is a great way to sleep better at night.
Another suggestion is to eat a potato before going to bed (potato and butter, nothing else)
That's because the potato will cause a moderate insulin spike which will allow the circulating amino acids to get into the cells leaving the poor tryptophan (a second class amino acid) free to cross the brain barrier where it will be converted to serotonin.
Serotonin doesn't only enhance relaxation but balance the circadian rhythms of day and night.

Only sometimes.  I have Ambien.  But I try not to take it too often.  I can only take half of a 10mg pill.  If I take a whole one I will hallucinate, get up and walk around, and talk out of my head to whoever happens to be around.  Half does the trick but without all that other stuff.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

I don't have insomnia, but I cannot sleep for more than two hours without waking up (and I don't mean for five minutes). Does anyone else have this problem?

The sealing of what? I know you didn't start that, but it made me wonder about staring at the siliconed joints around sanitary ware in bathrooms and the like, rather than what I think was meant...

I think that reading before going to bed helps me go to sleep.

At the moment, i am reading "The myth of the birth of Christ", which i can now mention on this forum without being banished to eternal damnation.

What does "enduce" mean? Is it by chance a puce coloured endive?

Also, i sometimes use the Sorabji Organ Symphony No 1.
So glad to know that you have a copy of the recording of this wonderful work, written as it was before Messiaen even got going as a composer and, of course, totally at odds with any organ music being composed by anyone else in Britain at the time. But for what do you "use" it? And don't you think that the instrument sounds wonderful and that the playing of mćstro Bowyer is beyond extraordinary?

Let me know if it works.  I'd try it, but my problem is initiating sleep, which is a whole other thing.

I read the aspirin tip in a book on sleeping written by the head of the Mayo Clinic's sleep clinic.

They certainly can be, indeed! That said, however, in this context, I do rather wonder how long a post has to be before Thal defines it as a "long" one and, if he really thinks that some of mine do indeed fall into that category, I also wonder how he manages to maintain his wakefulness while printing them off, but then perhaps he has a very fast printer.

On the other hand, of course, the now-absent Pianistimo's posts were never long nor sleep-inducing, were they? I'm sure Thal would agree with that...

I'm not sure the word count can really do justice to the density of (some) of this forum's contributer(s). 'Long' is more accurately measured with a stopwatch (or occasionally a sundial) than a tape measure. Admittedly I understand very little of the world in general, but I find many posts here harder to trawl through than Brahms' piano music.

Have been put on Seroquel for insomnia, but it turned me into a useless zombie so I quit using it.  They also tried Rispridol, welbutrin, ambien and zoloft, but none of those had any effect, and antihistimines stopped having effect after two nights.  Tranqs work but they're addictive so you can only take them for like 6-week periods.  Try Dramamine; it's an over-the-counter air sickness medication you can get anywhere.  Obv avoid the non-drowsy formula though :P

I'll give that a shot.  Meanwhile try Amitriptyline.  Get it from your doctor--25mg doses.  It's marvelous--very little hangover if any.  Gives you a peaceful happy feeling in the morning.

Dude. It's called Nyquil mang. Preferably a triple dose. Watch out for the alarm clock in the morning though. It tends to have a habit of randomly turning itself off... occasionally. That, and the intense magma-like pressure on the inner eyelids seems to create a saturated reddish hue to the cornea. You may feel somewhat zombie-like in the mornings, and serial-killer-like in the evenings... but all in good measure my friend. The sleep engulfs you in a whisping breeze of relaxation and ticklish feathered thoughts. That, and the flowing wave of creativity that washes over you in a seemingly endless supply of musical liquid is quite the soothing experience. This, right here, is the key. Grasp it. Unlock. Enjoy.
