Another new member calling in!
on: November 15, 2007, 12:13:46 AM
Hey, my name is Jisca, and I'm going by the user name chopin_89. I totally agree with Matt.. it was really cool to find a group of people who love piano on the web,
especially as I'm preparing to do my ARCT performers (RCM) in January.
The pieces I'm hoping to play for the exam are
1) Italian concerto  (Bach)
2)Moonlight sonata (Beethoven)
3) Rhapsody in g minor (Brams)
4) la Cathedrale engloutie (Debusee)
5) Prelude 24 (Kabelevsky)
6) Black key etude (op. 10 no. 5) (Chopin)
Just wanted to say the tips you guys are posting on the forum are really helpful.. even if they don't refer directly to the pieces I'm playing.

For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Don't you just love that Kabalevsky prelude?  I could post a recording of myself playing it, if you want...  Where do you live?  It's always great to have another Canadian on da88street.

Another Canadian, aye?  :) I live near the town of Kitchnener in Ontario. And yes, I love that Kabalevsky prelude, although at the end I always feel like I've sprinted 1000 metres. I've never actually heard a full recording of that piece, so that would be great if you could post a recording.

I was initially going to do my ARCT in June as well, but stuff came up, so I'm working hard right now to get it ready in time for January. Have you ever performed the Chopin Etude in G flat major? For some reason that seems to be my bad luck piece. I've never been happy with the way I've performed it in public.

Hey,
I'm currently at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, so you probably know where that is since you live in Ontario.  I uploaded my old recording of this Kabalevsky - I hope you enjoy it!  I actually played the 16th prelude for my ARCT because it was a really short piece, and at the time I wasn't really into 20th century music.  It's funny to think about, because now it's my absolute favorite stuff to play.

I have not performed the chopin etude in g flat major yet, I only have 50% of it done because I have been focusing on op.10 no.8 in F major for my competition next week.

Have you registered for your exam? The dateline for registration is over already. Why not do an August exam then?
